Barack Obama

Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961, to Barack Obama Sr., a Kenyan, and Ann Dunham, an American from Kansas. Obama's parents separated when he was two, and he was raised by his mother and her parents in Honolulu.

Obama attended Columbia University in New York City, where he graduated with a degree in political science in 1983. He then moved to Chicago, where he worked as a community organizer and attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 1991.

In 1992, Obama was elected to the Illinois State Senate, where he served until 2004. During this time, he wrote two books, Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope, which became bestsellers. In 2004, Obama was elected to the U.S. Senate, becoming the fifth African American senator in U.S. history.

44th President of the United States

In 2008, Obama ran for president and won a historic victory, becoming the first African American to be elected president of the United States. He was re-elected in 2012, and during his two terms in office, he focused on healthcare reform, economic recovery, and the fight against terrorism. He also worked to reduce the number of nuclear weapons in the world and to promote diplomacy with Iran.

In 2016, Obama left office with a 60% approval rating, the highest of any president since Dwight Eisenhower. After leaving office, Obama and his wife, Michelle, founded the Obama Foundation, which works to empower young people and promote civic engagement. Obama also continues to speak out on issues of social justice and racial equality.

In May 2017, Barack and Michelle Obama unveiled plans for the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. The center is a planned museum, library, and public policy center that will serve as a place for civic engagement and community building.

Despite efforts to repeal the ACA by the Trump administration, the law remained in place during Obama's presidency. The ACA helped millions of Americans gain access to affordable health care, and its survival was a major victory for Obama and his administration.

Obama made climate change a priority during his presidency and took steps to reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy. In 2015, the US signed the Paris Agreement, a global effort to combat climate change, and Obama played a key role in reaching that agreement.

In December 2018, the First Step Act was signed into law, which was a bipartisan criminal justice reform bill aimed at reducing mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent drug offenses.

Obama's foreign policy achievements during this time period include normalizing relations with Cuba and negotiating the Iran nuclear deal. He also continued to prioritize the fight against terrorism, including the successful mission to kill ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in 2019.
