Meryl Streep is an American actress who has been active in the entertainment industry since the 1970s.

Born in 1949 in New Jersey, she began her career as a stage actress in the 1970s, appearing in several Broadway productions. She made her film debut in 1977 with the drama Julia and went on to star in a number of critically acclaimed films, including The Deer Hunter, Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie's Choice, Out of Africa, and The Iron Lady. She has been nominated for a record 21 Academy Awards and has won three, making her the most awarded actor in Oscar history. 

 

In the 1980s, Streep starred in a number of successful films, including Silkwood, Falling in Love, Out of Africa, and Ironweed. She also earned her first Academy Award nomination for her performance in the drama The French Lieutenant's Woman. She went on to star in a number of other acclaimed films, including A Cry in the Dark, Postcards from the Edge, Death Becomes Her, and The Bridges of Madison County. In the 1990s, she starred in films such as The River Wild, One True Thing, Music of the Heart, and Adaptation. 

 


In the 2000s, Streep continued to star in a number of critically acclaimed films, including The Devil Wears Prada, Doubt, Julie & Julia, and August: Osage County. She also earned her third Academy Award for her performance in the drama The Iron Lady. In recent years, she has starred in films such as Florence Foster Jenkins, The Post, and The Laundromat. She has also appeared in television series such as Big Little Lies and The Prom. 

In 2016, she gave a powerful speech at the Democratic National Convention, advocating for Hillary Clinton's candidacy and calling for greater gender equality in politics and beyond. She has also been a vocal advocate for the #MeToo movement and has spoken out against sexual harassment and assault in the entertainment industry and beyond.

 

In 2017, she received her 20th Academy Award nomination for her leading role in the film "Florence Foster Jenkins," breaking her own record for the most Oscar nominations for any actor in history. That same year, she also received the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes for her contributions to the world of entertainment. In addition to her continued success on the big screen, Streep has also been involved in a number of high-profile television projects.

 

 

In 2019, she starred in the HBO miniseries "Big Little Lies," earning critical acclaim for her performance as Mary Louise Wright. She also lent her voice to the Apple TV+ animated series "Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth" in 2020.
