Tom Hanks is an American actor, filmmaker, and writer, known for his roles in films such as Forrest Gump, Cast Away, and Saving Private Ryan.

Hanks was born on July 9, 1956, in Concord, California, to Amos Mefford Hanks, an itinerant cook, and Janet Marylyn Frager, a hospital worker. Hanks' parents divorced when he was four years old, and he and his siblings were raised primarily by their father.
